Turbulence Forecast App

TurboTrack is a purpose-built turbulence forecast app for iOS. It aggregates live pilot reports, SIGMET alerts, and historical EDR data to give you a clear turbulence forecast for any route — before and during your flight.

What TurboTrack shows you before your flight

Before you fly, TurboTrack gives you three layers of information: (1) Route turbulence score — a 0–100 score based on historical EDR data and PIREP averages for your specific route. Includes worst month, best month, and seasonal chart, (2) Live conditions — active PIREPs filed by pilots on your route in the last 2 hours, with location and severity, (3) SIGMET alerts — official severe turbulence warnings from aviation meteorological authorities, displayed as map overlays. Together these give you the most complete turbulence picture available outside of a professional flight briefing.

Best seat recommendations

TurboTrack's seat guide feature shows the optimal rows to book for each aircraft type on your route. The recommendation is based on aircraft seating maps combined with turbulence physics — wing rows are consistently smoother, and TurboTrack identifies which specific rows are over the wings for the aircraft assigned to your flight. For high-turbulence routes, this feature can make a significant difference in flight comfort.

How TurboTrack compares to alternatives

There are several turbulence apps available: Turbulenceforecast.com and Turbli (web-based, pilot-oriented) provide graphical altitude-level forecasts — excellent for understanding the route but complex for non-pilots. AeroWeather and Aviation Weather (pilot weather apps) show raw PIREP and SIGMET data without interpretation. TurboTrack is the only app designed specifically for passengers — it translates aviation data into plain English turbulence levels with no aviation background required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is TurboTrack free?
TurboTrack is free to download on iOS with free access to route turbulence scores, historical data, and seasonal charts. Premium features include live PIREP tracking, real-time SIGMET overlays, 48-hour flight-specific forecasts, and the best seat guide. Premium is available as a weekly or annual subscription.
Does TurboTrack work in airplane mode?
Yes — TurboTrack pre-downloads route data when you look up your flight on the ground. In airplane mode at altitude, you can still access the route turbulence score, seasonal chart, seat guide, and any PIREPs downloaded before departure. For live in-flight data updates, you need in-flight Wi-Fi.
Which airports and routes does TurboTrack cover?
TurboTrack covers 1,800+ routes worldwide including all major transatlantic, transpacific, US domestic, European short-haul, Middle Eastern, South Asian, Southeast Asian, South American, Australian, and African routes. The database is updated daily with new PIREP data. Live PIREP search works for any ICAO route pair worldwide, beyond the curated route database.
How accurate are turbulence forecasts?
Turbulence forecasting accuracy depends on the source: historical route scores are highly reliable (based on thousands of flights, good for typical conditions), short-range forecasts (24–48 hours) are 70–80% accurate for moderate turbulence, live PIREPs are accurate for the conditions at the time of filing (useful within 2–4 hours). No turbulence forecast is 100% reliable — clear-air turbulence can appear without warning even with the best forecast tools.
